Join us at Swords into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery on Saturday, May 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for a conversation on how we can reduce gun violence. It will be held in the gallery in conjunction with the current show, Guns: Artists Respond, sponsored by the Women’s Caucus for Art, Michigan chapter. A short performance, “The Know Gun Show”, by Catherine Zudak of Pass The Hat Productions, will us start off and artists from the show will speak briefly about their work. Questions and discussion will take place through out. Several groups, including Moms Demand Action and Physicians for the Prevention of Gun Violence, will give their point of view, as will Clara Lawrence of Swords into Plowshares. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, candidate for governor will also join us. Community members from across the political spectrum are invited to share their views on the role and impact of art created in response to divisive public issues. Margaret Parker, president of the Women’s Caucus for Art, MI, says, “Standing still, in front of a powerful piece of art gives you the opportunity to process slowly, in your own way, a traumatic and life-changing event.” The event is free and open to the public.
